Hello!
Have read lots on the forum over the years but first time posting
I’m mainly an enameller albeit a youngish one, but also do some goldsmithing - I’m particularly keen to increase my traditional goldsmithing skills on the side, as I am trying to move away from working on cast pieces and would like to complement my enamelling with other more traditional techniques over the coming years.
I came across the previews to Leonid Surpins three videos (who I believe was active here before he passed) but can’t seem to find any way to purchase the full videos?
I was wondering if anyone here might still have them and be willing to let me borrow them? (I am based in London, UK)
Otherwise I don’t know if it would be possible for them to be uploaded somewhere, seems a shame for them to have disappeared entirely!
They seem to me one of the some of the only traditional and higher-end goldsmithing instructionals I have come across rather than usual teaching resources, but if anyone knows of others I’d greatly appreciate the tip off
Also a long shot but if there are any traditional goldsmiths in UK who might like to share some of their skills (I can offer champlevé enamelling in return) do drop me a message
Best wishes
Philip

Philip, I have the DVDs but do not want to mail them, especially internationally. They are still copyrighted, so copying them is out as well.
His DVDs do teach techniques I’ve seen demonstrated nowhere else, but on the other hand there is so much readily available online.
A very valuable thing to me is actually seeing a goldsmith at work rather than seeing the same content shown in a pdf file. for example, I’ve been taught to heat sterling quickly to prevent fire stain, but he spent a very long time gently heating a delicate eternity ring structure for soldering, far longer than I’d ever have imagined.
However, there are over 60 youtube video segments of a very extensive project of Leonid’s here:
I just tried viewing one and didn’t hear any sound. That might have been my browser, or not. I’ve seen them before, don’t remember about narration.
Leonid’s youtubes, and the project itself are definitely worth seeing, perhaps just skimming them to get the general idea, and then viewing some of the 60+ in detail. I haven’t tried to find the first one, don’t have the time right now.
Good luck and enjoy!

The first one is here:
Leonid was commissioned to make a pendant (which he misspelled as pendent) to last for generations. It was designed to be repairable by a competent goldsmith. He used screws as a cold connection for one part so the pendant could be disassembled for repair.
You might look at the last one first to get an idea of what the pendant looks like. I don’t think the first one showed that.

I did the online apprenticeship with Jewellery Training Solutions. It all starts with sheet and wire and teaches a traditional apprenticeship model which I found really helpful. Highly recommend.
