Length for a Childs Necklace

Hi all

I have been asked to make a silver necklace for a four year old girl
but I am uncertain how long to make it. I can’t ask the parents for a
measurement as it is part of a surprise for them as well.

Does anyone have any measurements for necklaces for children? She is
an average size child - not heavy built. I would like it sit as a 16"
chain would on the average adult. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

An average length used by alot of mfgs for childrens jewelry, is
12-13".

Hello Joy,

I made a necklace for my niece when she was 3. The length that "sat"
on her as you describe was between 12 and 13 inches. I wanted her to
be able to wear the necklace as she grew, so I put jump rings in the
chain at 12, 14, and 16 inches. The end jumpring at 16 inches had a
pretty dangle.

One could also use a chain with linkage that allows the clasp to
attach anywhere.

Let us know how the necklace turns out,
