I read about this in my newspaper. After negotiating a price for an
item a check is sent in an amount over the price agreed upon. When
contacted about the discrepancy, the check writer asks to have a
refund of the overage. The checks are fraudulent. Unless the
account number is validated before you send merchendise you are at
risk. The result is the loss of cash and merchandise. Another
twist to the scam; ordering multiples and then asking to reduce the
number of items and asking for a refund of the balance.
