Hello all, Seeing the posts on Keum boo I have a question of my
own. What is the best way to remove heavy tarnish from a keum boo
piece? It also looks like the piece I have might have a patina on
it to bring out the design.
Thanks for input. G. Stokes in Cleveland
To both Grace and Leah who were respectively asking about cleaning
keum boo and silver: use a creamy-consistency mix of water and sodium
bicarbonate (baking soda) and either rub it over the surface with
your fingers or gently scrub with an old soft-bristle toothbrush.
This will lift off the oxidisation-tarnish and will not affect pearls
or surface textures. It’s an old jewellers’ trick and works best with
silver and yellow gold alloys. Simply rinse off under the tap and you
will find you have a beautifully restored surface. Kind regards from Rex in Australia
