Journey becoming a master jeweler

Hi guys,

First of all, let me congratulate you all for making this forum such
a fantastic place for all of us who have an interest in this area. I
am sure i will be spending my nights and days here with a cup of
coffee trying to absorb in the wealth of knowledge.

I found this forum because i was initially interested in Gems, but
then i realized what could be more adventurous and gratifying than
making a nice piece of jewelry that everyone including myself can
enjoy. The idea of creating something out of nothing, and to see
something come out of your own creative mind is why i am so
interested in getting into this.

Being a complete newbie, I was wondering if anyone could point me to
the right direction? For example, is this something that I can learn
on my own by practicing at home? If so, what are some of the
equipments i will need to get started, and what are some of the few
techniques and materials a beginner should look into to start
practicing? Where do you get your materials? and what are some good
resources or books i should get to further my studies?

In addition, i would very much like to hear about other people’s
experience and their journey in becoming a master jeweler. How was
the learning process?

Lastly, I was wondering if anyone care to have a conversation with
me on AIM or Yahoo Messenger, if any of you ever have some time to
spare of course. I would very appreciate it! =)

Kind Regards,
Mike
