Jewelry mfg. school in Garden Grove, California

Does anyone in this group know of a jewelry manufacturing school
that was located in an industrial park in Garden Grove, California
near the 22 freeway and Beach blvd.? I don’t remember the name. There
was also an R.O.P. class in Santa Ana at the high school. Any ideas
???

Thanks, Larry

Hey Larry,

When I lived in SoCal many years ago, I attended a session at a
place called JTI (Jewelry Technical Institute). Sounds like the same
place, in a business park, right off the Garden Grove Freeway.
Passable, but a better choice would be Blaine Lewis’ New Approach
School in Virginia Beach. Might be a trip well worth while!

All the best,

Dave

Thanks Dave, I do believe the Jewelry Technical Institute was the
name of the Jewelry mfg. school in Garden Grove, California. I was
wondering if they have moved or if they are still in business in the
same place. The reason I was looking for them again is that I am now
living near there and am interested in taking some classes in this
area. Any more info would be appreciated. I knew about Blaine Lewis’
New Approach School already. I may go that way someday.

Thanks again, Larry

Sorry… can’t help any more than that, Larry! I’ve been back on the
east coast since the late 80’s, which tells you how long ago it was
that I attended. I couldn’t even confirm the freeway or building are
still there! On my last visit to So.Cal. I was stunned to find the
onramp to the Costa Mesa freeway near my old apartment had
up-and-vanished! I was later told it had only been “moved”…

The JTI classes were very much trade oriented… rather than art or
academic. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was closed. The only
instructor I ever saw was an older gentleman approaching retirement
age. While reasonably well equipped, it didn’t strike me as though
they had a long term commitment to the facility. It was in a business
park, after all.

Depending on how far you’re able to travel, you might consider
Saddleback College, I believe in Mission Viejo. Or even GIA in
Carlsbad. Take the train from Santa Ana? Maybe another Orchid member
can recommend some more trade-oriented training resources in the
area. Might be easier if we knew where you actually are!

All the best,

Dave
