[Jewelry Attractions] Milan and Florence

Hi Folks -

I leave for Italy on Wednesday. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to
me to ask this sooner, but, are there any jewelry must-sees in Milan
and Florence that you would recommend?

Can I see any of Castellani’s work in either city? Does anybody know
if that jewelry house is still in existence?

Thanks in advance!
Linda

Ciao - I know Firenze pretty well- My husband is Florentine and we
live there part time- I have attended a few schools there too… The
must visit school in my opinion is called Alchimia - it’s

located on “the other side of the river” from the duomo—just a hop
skip and jump away from Santo Spirito and the Brancacci Chapel. they
have a web site to check out too- www.alchimia.it I took a workshop
with Giampalo Babbetto which was crucial to the work that I am doing
now.

Also- Gatto Bianco is a metalsmithing gallery that is always fun to
visit- it’s located close to the ponte vecchio, but a little hard to
find, so you might have to hunt a bit… if you are walking towards
the duomo just stepping off the ponte vecchio take your second left
( the street is a bit hidden…) and walk down about a block, Gatto
Bianco is going to be on your right side…By the way…a few doors
down is Mealli—the “riogrande” of Firenze…Loads of metals
tools…just remember to bring your dictionary if you don’t speak
Italian! Of course via Tornabuoni also has Buccellati and other
“biggies”- so fun to see twinkly things!

Well- those are a few of my reccomendations- Sorry, I don’t know
Milan. Please tell the guys at Mealli I said Ciao!
