“Jewellery Week: Top US and Canadian Designers Shine in Calgary”

America’s premiere jewellery designers are coming to Calgary the
first week of September, with exhibitions of their work and Canada’s
best jewelry designers and silversmiths. The work of the American
Jewelry Design Council will be on display and is the subject of a
public lecture at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD).

The Jewellery/Metals Program ACAD is partnering with Jewels by
Design Studio and Influx Jewellery Gallery to sponsor the exhibitions
and lectures. The week kicks off with the exhibition “100 Medallions:
a Centennial Exhibition” at Influx Gallery in ArtCentral on 8th Ave,
with opening celebrations Thursday Sept 1, 8pm on, part of the
Brilliant City Centennial Celebration. It shows 100 wearable,
contemporary, art jewellery medallions created by artists from
Western Canada and across the country. The show runs August 29 -
October 15.

Famed American jewellery designer Alan Revere, president of the AJDC
and founder of the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco
will present a lecture on the annual projects of the AJDC at the
Stanford Perrot Theater at ACAD, 1407 14th Ave NW on Tuesday Sept. 6
at 7:00PM.

This event is free and open to the public. The renowned author and
artist is teaching a master class on Bench Tips that day at ACAD.

International award winning artist Llyn Strelau hosts the American
Jewelry Design Council (AJDC) exhibition at his gallery Jewels By
Design, 1040 5th Ave SW. The AJDC includes over 35 of the finest
contemporary jewellery artists in North America. The exhibition
showcases AJDC members as well as superb Calgary designers. The
original fine jewellery works will be on display from Sept 8th
through the 12th. The artists will be in attendance for the opening
reception on Thursday Sept. 8th from 4:30 to 7:30.

The ACAD Illingworth Kerr Gallery presents the national exhibition
“In Service”. This celebrates recent works by 9 of Canada’s leading
silversmiths including Calgary’s Jackie Anderson. The opening
reception will be held Friday Sept. 9th from 5PM to 8PM, and
organizer Kye Yeon Son, Professor of Metalsmithing at the Nova
Scotia College of Art and Design will present remarks on the works
and speak to the public about the show. The exhibition runs until
October 8th.
