This site has a video of a round vessel being chased. There is a
section where the texture of the tool shows. Marcia Lewis says that
the Japanese put a mat finish on their tools. During the workshop
that I took from her at Arrowmont, we made our tools and almost the
last step w as to tap the annealed and shaped punch onto an old file
to texture it. I learned to like this mat texture and think that it
gives more control.
