Jade removal

A client brought a ring for resizing, increase two full sizes. Of
utmost concern is the 12 x 14mm jade cab which appears to be
chemically bonded in place. My preference would be removing the cab
prior to any work. Often times a small amount of heat will soften
epoxy allowing easy stone removal. Will jade withstand it? This stone
is completely open in back. The adhesive is very evident in a couple
of areas.

Ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Jerry,

Soak the piece in “Attack” for awhile. It will loosen the glue so you
can remove the stone and then size the ring. Attack is great for
un-gluing pearls too.

Laurie

if it is jade, should withstand the heat well

First of all put ring into Attack in a closed container for at least
24 hrs.
