I grew up a welder’s son and spent the first 17 years of my life
in and around our shop. I learned all the basic metalworking
skills, and then swore I’d never have anything to do with welding
or anything like it. To prove it, I got a degree in computer
science. Now, here I am 17 years later, avidly interested in
jewelry-making. The irony, of course, is that I’m using many of
the skills my father taught me, only on a smaller scale. He’s
not sure what to make of it. I’m having a great time, but it’s
just a hobby at this point.
