Introducing - Steve Workman

I’ve been a bench jeweler for about twenty-five years. I’ve
worked in a wide variey of places: from very fine guild jewelery
stores to production shops. I’ve also had my own shop in Santa
Monica, California, where we produced hand-made, one-of-a- kind
items. At present, I’m an instructor of jewelery making at the
Gemological Institute of America.

Steve, Welcome!

I took the advance fabrication course you taught out in Tucson
last year. I have used the techniques I learned in your class
numerous times in the last year. I can’t tell you how it
expanded my repertoire of fabricated pieces. I am looking forward
to hearing from you on Orchid, as I suspect you will have lots of
good input. I was hoping to take some workshops out in Tucson
this year, but, I just opened a store and have neither the time
nor the resources to spend a week in Arizona.

Wishing you the best!

Hello Steve,
Welcome to our forum… This place is a blast… Great info here…
Listen I am wondering… I live in Pa. and I would love to take
some fabrication seminars and some pave’ classes… I am a firm
beleiver in that a person could never have enough knoweledge…
The only problem is that I am not a big fan of the city (NY) and
GIA offers nothing even close to my area… Any suggestions…???
Thanks , Marc Williams

I hope you will share your knowledge and experiences with the
forum.

I’ve been asked to mentor a 13 year old (this will be the second
time) and would be grateful for any insight. I’ve heard good
things about the GIA courses over the past 18 years or so and it
seems you have a satisfied student here on Orchid.

I mostly do fabrication in 18k, but had early training as a
modelmaker both in whitemetal and sterling and most of my
wholesale line is cast.

Hi, Steve:

As soon as I figure out the best way to do it, I am sending
Orchid a list of 73 schools/institutions that have jewelry arts
classes. Intended to do this on 1/26. Maybe there’ll be
something close to you.

Cheers,
Gayle Morris

Sharon, How nice to be welcomed by you, especially since I’m
leaving for Tucson on Monday. I’m teaching a two day fab class
this year, but half of it is last year’s project. Please e mail
me if I can be helpfull to you and thanks for the kind words.

I was a avid daily reader and sometime contributer for quite
some time. Moved from LA to the San Diego area and couldn’t keep
up, so I just got the digest. But I missed the immediacy and
detail of the whole list. So I’m back.
