Introducing - Jan Van Diver

Hi- I am just a hobby level jewelry creator, but I just love it.
Unfortunately, since moving here a few years ago, I have not had
a safe place to use my torch! I don’t want my tanks indoors, and
my garage is much too hot in summer to be safe from explosions
and usually has too much junk in it. I have been stirring some
ideas around in my head on creating pieces with only cold joining
processes. Giving myself some limitations will be good for me as
my biggest problem is deciding what to do because there are
always too many different ideas in my head…therefore, many
times I don’t make anything, and just think, like now, since I
cannot focus on any one idea. I must set some parameters for
myself - I am anxious to get my hands busy again, and am looking
forward to learning from all of you! This is going to be great.
BTW, I am a forty something woman with a fine arts degree, but my
concentration was in printmaking. I only wish I had been inspired
by the 2 semesters of jewelry making that I took then, as I
really think I would be doing this professionally by now. I
never quite felt the joy of the process in other media that I do
when I work with stones and metal. I also feel that in creating
wearable art I would have had a better chance of making a living
with my art. It seems much more marketable than painting or
serigraphy! Anyway, I may start to bore all of you and I’m
anxious to see what you have to say! Jan

Hi Jan, and welcome!!

I had to laugh when I read this:

my biggest problem is deciding what to do because there are
always too many different ideas in my head…therefore, many
times I don’t make anything, and just think, like now, since I
cannot focus on any one idea.

That just sounds too much like me! You are in good company, and
I’m sure we’ll benefit from your experience, too!
