Hi everyone. I saw this great contrast of dark silver with gold color. But how did they push/press gold leaf (assuming that’s what it is) into the engraved spaces? Upon inspection it looks like they were not successful in getting gold leaf into all the spaces. So as I suspect, it’s a difficult process? Is there a better way? I’d rather not enamel silver since it’s so hard to get enamel to stick to silver since most silver I can get will have a little copper in it. I like the idea of gold leaf inside the engravings what tools/methods are best to push it in? thanks!

i searched youtube for “gold inlay” expecting to find mostly traditional gold line inlay…where undercut channels are first engraved…and was happy to find this video of inlaying a griffon!

Google Spanish Toledo jewelry. I lived in Madrid back in the 60s. Toledo is a quick bus ride from there. I fell in love with that historical town and all of the jewelry making. It’s a process that goes back for centuries. It’s way trickier to do that inlay than one can imagine. Most all of the folks doing it have been many many generations in the trade.
