old will be thicker at the bottom due to the glass (actually a
super-cooled fluid) flowing very slowly

Mr. Halem is a superb glass artist, and retired arts professor from
Kent State University, Kent, OH (USA).
His article addresses what he refers to as “an urban legend” of
flowing glass.
