Hinged,clamp questions

I would like to make a hinged clamp closure similar to this - the pieces I want to attach it to are 24 gauge (repousse). Should I reinforce the area that will be the hinge? Is there a more attractive way to do this (hide the spring?) is it even possible?

I also do repousse, and soldering would anneal the already thin metal at the hinge site. Do you plan a mechanical attachment instead?

I was thinking about leaving extra metal on both pieces that could be rolled(?) & then cut into opposite sections as I a hinge, then somehow insert a spring that would end in the inside middle. Not sure if this is understandable, or if I can pull it off. I will make a practice hinge, but was hoping someone had a better idea.

Consider cold connecting the repousse to a stronger base which can hold a proper hinge.

an inexperienced 2 cents: could you make the hinge itself from a springy material and make the hinge pin a cam? That would completely hide the spring.

Brian - could you explain further? I don’t understand what you mean by make the hinge pin a cam. Thanks

Thanks Marilyn - I think I’ll try it. Going to have to make some practice pieces.
