I am looking for higher end jewelry boxes / packaging. My concept is
to have a “special” wrapper box that holds the usual leatherette,
velvet, package. The concept is to “WOW” a person and create more
excitement before they open usual jewelry box. Any idea where I
could get a custom made box, without getting killed with minimums.
There are some Italian companies that make some quite wonderful
boxes. But you should be prepared to spend in the neighborhood of
$30-$75 per box. If you want some names contact me off list.

I am very interested in the Italian box makers you mentioned, but
for some reason I was unable to contact you using your sites contact
facility.Would you be so good as to contact me at the below address ?
“Thank you so much”
I’m not ignoring you. I’ve managed to misplace my As
soon as I can find it, I’ll forward it to you.
I’m not sure why you couldn’t use the contact on the website. We
were having a problem a few weeks ago, but that was corrected (I just
tested it again after your email). Maybe it’s an Irish/American
incompatibility thing.

This is the company’s name: Floriani Astucci [florianiastucci.it]
Not sure of the web address but it’s probably their name. We did an
extensive search recently and they had the finest product we could
find anywhere. There were one or two others in Italy that were close
but we don’t have their info any more.

I’ve haven’t been following this ‘high end’ box thread too much,
but, I’d be very interested in hearing from anyone about what you’d
like to see in these boxes. If there is enough consensus I will look
at producing some samples in the US and get a price going. I would
welcome any very detailed responses off list as well.
Tight black leather exterior. Sharp rounded corners. 6x4, 8x6 size.
Textured tan or grey colored interior. Interchangable bottom insert
with 2-4 rows or different size single indentations. Gold hinge flip
top opening. Hand stitched or embossed company logo. Most important a
super slim profile to fit in your pocket.
I suspect most will need to be hand-made. Forget about making this
in the USA. This must be done outside the USA or Europe to compete
with price.
Hi All - this may not be what you’re looking for, but just a
thought. While at school at North Bennet Street in Boston, I availed
myself of the Bookbinding Program downstairs. I had some beautifully
made custom boxes done in fabrics and leather, (under $50 for a
bracelet box done in fabric, you could also have hand made and/or
decorated paper - stunning!) Something different, unique,
innovative, and supportive of a fellow craftsman, which appealed to
me. Unfortunately, I didn’t snap any photos, but if anyone’s
interested, you can contact me off line and I can recommend the
bookbinder I used. Also, one might be able to contract with an
independent custom leather worker in your area for something unique
and acceptable. Best, Holly Hawkins.
PS On a personal note, I landed in Houston last Sunday, interviewed
on Monday, and on Tuesday, accepted the job as a bench jeweler with
a wonderful couple in Sugarland. Am now working on unpacking my own
bench at home before my first day of work on Monday! Thanks all for
words of encouragement and recommendations.
I saw these at JCK… they have leather pouches which are really nice
as well as high end leather jewelry boxes with your name/logo
embossed on them. They are beautiful. Not cheap, but the minimums are
low.

I just have to mention that the chemicals used to tan leather and the
off-gassing of those chemicals will tarnish silver faster than
liver-of-sulfur and will even discolor gold.
Tanned leather is not a good material to store jewelry in, unless you
like a dark patina.

I had a very nice Coach® roll-up jewelry bag that not only
tarnished the silver items but curiously tarnished the gold items
too! I never used it again!
