Help with 14k nickle white gold

I am making a bolo tie with a 14k nickle white gold background, 18K
yellow gold wire border around the piece, 3 bezels of 22k YG and an
applique of 14k YG. I am having a terrible time with the white gold
base plate warping. I am using 22 gu for this. Also a lot of
discoloration on the white gold which I’m hoping will come off with
the final polishing. I’ve almost got the piece bent back into shape
and am almost finished with all the soldering steps. Before I began
soldering I dipped all the gold pieces in borax-alcohol and lit
them. In case I am ever foolish enough to try something like this
again, I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on keeping the warping
and discoloring of white gold to a minimum. Any tips on polishing
off the discoloration and getting all the warp out? The piece is
about 1 3/4" X 1 1/2" . I’ve done this sort of thing before but I’ve
always used silver for the base plate and I used a heavier gauge.

Thanks in advance - I love this group. Jan McClellan

Go to Palladium White. While it cost a little more, it is worth the
difference in time saved at the bench. Very little fire scale and it
is softer so setting stones is much easier.

There was a thread some time back about removing fire scale on Nickle
white.
