hi ron putting any thing on the bottom of your ultrasonic
damages the transducers, you will be better off hanging it in
some sort of basket or tray etienne
Why is it not good to put a glass beaker resting on the bottom of the ultrasonic. I have been doing this for many years and have had no problems----yet. Ron
Hi Ron,
It is ‘frequent’ practice to put a ring or chain on the bottom
of an ultrasonic but it is not ‘good’ practice. Two reasons
really:
-
The ultrasonic action (“cavitation”) causes the jewelry to
vibrate on the tank bottom and this often can cause tiny little
scratches to the jewelry. -
For most (not all) ultrasonic cleaners, the tranducers (which
are the parts that cause the cavitation, i.e. they transform
electrical energy into ultrasonic energy) are glued to the
underside of the tank. When there is excess sediment or lots of
jewelry or beakers whatever placed on the bottom of tank, it
causes the transducers to work too hard and vibrate. They can
literally shake themselves loose from the tank. This is a
common repair we have to make.
It’s best to get a ring rack, or basket, or something that can
be suspended from the top/sides of the cleaner so that nothing
touches the bottom. Also be sure to clean out the ultrasonic on
a regular basis so there are no accumulations of dirt or
polishing compound, etc. on the bottom.
Also be sure to keep your ultrasonic cleaner filled to the
proper level which is about 1" from top of the tank. There are
automatic fillers (very inexpensive) that make it easy to keep
the level topped off.
These practices will allow you to get the best cleaning and
longest life from your ultrasonic cleaner. And of course use a
cleaning solution that is recommended specifically for
ultrasonic cleaning.
I hope that helps?
