Hardening Platinum Rhodium Wire

Hi Everyone,

I have come across 0.5mm 90/10 Platinum Rhodium wire that I am
trying to utilize for filigree work. In its present state it is too
soft for jewelry work. Would it be possible to harden this wire
either by heat or by reducing the size using a draw plate?

Thank all in advance.

Heat treating won’t harden it. But drawing it down, as with any
platinum wire, will do so, though more slowly than gold. For round
wire, you might also try twisting it. This works the metal without
reducing the size. I’d suggest twisting first to get some hardness,
then drawing down to remove the slight spiral marking that the
twisting will likely leave.
