Guilds and Societies

Hi Everyone!

I would like to join a local guild or society - - I’m in northern NJ
and I can’t seem to find one. I saw a listing for the Montclair Craft
Guild, but my e-mail came back undeliverable. Does anyone know of an
appropriate organization I could/should join?

Thanks for your help.

there’s always SNAG. National, not local, but definately a worthy
organization. Not all areas have local metals guilds, but keep
looking…

You might try the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths. The web site
shows a workshop being held at the Bucks County Community College
which might not be too far depending on how many workshops they
actually hold there. The web site is http://www.pagoldsmiths.org

Nan,

The Florida Society of Goldsmiths (FSG), the second largest
metalsmithing organization in the United States, is open even to
non-residents of Florida. You would become what is known as an “At
Large Member”, not attached directly to one of our 6 chapters, but
hosted by the state organization. There are several week long
workshops that are sponsored by FSG. Imagine going to Florida the
first week in January for a week long workshop for metals? The next
event, for 5 days of class, is the Mountain Metalsmithing, the last
week of August 2006 at William Holland School in northern Georgia.
Check out the web site fsg4u.com to get more on events.
There are several links that may help you to find an organization
closer to where you live.

I would agree wholeheartedly! There are members from New Jersey, and
more northerly counties in PA who travel to Philly to attend classes
and meetings. I’m sure you will be able to contact people who aren’t
too far from you, and who would be willing to share the ride. They
offer many excellent classes by well-known instructors, and a
tremendous resource for networking. It’s an interesting group of
people with a wide range of talents and experience.
