I have a blacksmith friend who is looking for a larger than 20 ton press. I will ask Kevin Potter and the Boony Doon people, but does anyone have any suggestions about where else to look? He doesn’t want an automotive type press. Thanks…Rob
Rob, Rio shows a 55 ton press, but at eye-watering cost.
I’m pretty sure Potter USA had higher-tonnage presses in the past. Kevin might do a custom repeat as a special request.
Not a jewelry-size press, may or may not suit a blacksmith, but Harbor Freight has a 50 ton press at a steal of a price:
I used a Harbor Freight 20 ton shop press for some years, and while a Bonny Doon is much nicer to use, the HF press did the job.
I have a 55T Bonny Doon deep draw press that I’m willing to sell. pm me on fb Judy Staby Hoch
Judy…I will pass your information on. He came by to visit my shop a couple days ago and still is trying to figure out where he wants to go with his art…Rob
Hello, Peter from Bonny Doon here!
It really depends on what your blacksmith friend wants to do with the press. We do sell a 55 and 100 ton but they are specifically suited for die striking work (and deep draw). Most blacksmiths are forging in a press which requires a higher speed. Roughly 1 inch per second is what i hear from a knifemaker friend. Our high speed pump can move a 20 ton cylinder at that speed, but once you use a higher pressure cylinder, you have to move a lot more oil and the speed decreases. There are some specific presses out there for blacksmiths and their price is not bad, coal iron forge is one. I have a friend who is currently selling a 25 ton forging press if you are interested.
