Dear Donna,
Sure! Even now, the British standard can be 9Kt, and the German one
as low as 8Kt (marked 333). This last is set to change I hear, but
definitely there is a lot of old jewellery out there made with under
10K assay.
A lot of commercial Victorian Jewellery was also made from 9Kt
"rolled gold". Brass or, more usually copper, with a single or double
sided overlay of various karats of gold, mostly higher purity, but
very often 9Kt.
I hope your collectibles are beautiful. Who knows, they may even be
worth a lot!!!
Good Luck, Nariman H. Wadia.
