i’ve got some small clip ons pearl fasionable earrings that are “gold-plated” metal, and the backing clip is also gold-plated; so want to know what’s the best type of tool to use in order to remove the metal residue that’s left— that small residual bead of metal, is the actual originally used soldering that was originally used at the factory— so that i can be able to apply the recommended metal to metal glue that my jeweler advised me to get; she’d strongly advised to get: aleene’s premium quality jewelry & metal glue; but she cautioned that the small bead of metal that’s left on the earring has to be completely removed.
I’m not sure why all the old metal needs to be removed to glue a new part on? But I’d probably use some kind of flex shaft grinding attachment. I’m a big fan of diamond burs, but there’s lots of options. Let’s see what others suggest. Feel free to post a picture of this piece. That might be helpful.
