I just read today in the Mid-America Jewelry News that a jeweler in
Iowa had two individuals come in to sell gold. He tested all items
and they were 14kt. The people said they were not sure about selling
them, took them back and put them in a bag. The couple needed to
discuss the offer and conferred and decided to sell. The man reached
into the bag and handed the bag of gold jewelry to the jeweler.
The jeweler keep feeling that something was wrong during the
transaction, but it was at the end of the day and he was not paying
as much attention due to two days of hard work and little sleep. As
soon as the couple left, he retested and items were similar in
appearance, however they were not gold. Review of the video
surveillance tape revealed the switch when the woman created a
distraction.
