Looking to onlay platinum on gold, it’s fair amount and looking for others thoughts on shaping first then soldering together or vice verser? Planning to make a cuff bangle with gold inside and platinum outside, starting to have concerns that the metals will pull at the seam if I work them joined from flat, and that shaping first will encourage a non-uniform meeting for a nice seam.
Now consideering investing in a press to ensure a better uniform shaping too.
If you are using flat stock just solder the platinum onto the gold. And then shape it. Use high temp solder. I would recommend that you use 18kt or higher because the 2 metals have different malleability.
If you are doing it domed it’s gonna pretty darn hard to do. As my late father used to say, “KISS. Keep it simple stupid”.
Yeah, I would not have agreed to an antclastic design along with the bi-metal design. Even with my excitement to have near free reign on design without budget limit that was a step too far. Thanks for the input. KISS
Why don’t you see if David H Fell or Hoover and Strong would make a bimetal of Platinum and gold? Or make your own bimetal, sure would solve the separating problem. Judy H
