Gem & Mineral shops in London & Paris

Does anyone on the list know of any interesting Mineral & Gem shops
within subway, and walking distance of London or Paris? Or the best
Museums of Minerals & Gems in the same areas. Will be visiting next
month and would like to be able to visit. Ron Schanfish

Ron Definitely check out the gems & minerals collection at The Museum
of Natural History. They have cases upon cases of minerals by
classification. Gorgeous! I’m going to London next month too & plan
on spending a couple of hours looking at stones & reading the
descriptions. Debbie www.kaplandesigns.com

Dear Ronald, In London the Museum of Natural History in Kensington has
an excellent display of Gems and Minerals, a nice gift shop stocked
with some specimens and a good selection of books. There is also a
nice rock shop with some excellent, abeit pricey mineral specimens.
The Piccadilly Tube Station is a half block away and can take you
directly into Heathrow. You might want to check out the Sorbonne in
Paris…the French are big on Mineralogy. Bon Voyage! Ron at
Mills Gem Co. Los Osos, CA.

Ronald, in London the museum to go for is The Geological Museum,
located in South Kensington. This is the main “museum area” in
London, it also has The Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert
(usually called the V and A). This last has extensive jewellery
collections. The specimens on display in the Geology Museum have the
unforunate effect of making everything else seem a bit insignificant.

Don’t know about mineral shops in London. In Paris, a few years ago,
there were a few in the side streets in the area known as Isle de la
Cite, but they were selling at tourist type prices. Hav a good trip!

Hi Ron,

The Geological Museum in Exhibition Road just up from South
Kensington Underground station. You could also try getting in touch
with the Gemmological Association, 27 Greville Street. www.gagtl.ac.uk
to see if they have anything on.
