I have had similar problems doing a married metals project in
school. Have you (the donut hole guy) tried planishing the gap
between the silver and copper components with a planishing
hammer? If your piece is thick enough, you should be able to get
a good finish with a little luck. As to the expansion, that
would only make the seam tighter. Give it a try.
