Yes, you can absolutely correct the fit of the cross locks. Here are a few quick pics.
- Make a bend beyond the area you want to correct on both sides using serrated pliers.
- Hold the pliers off the edge of an anvil and strike the new bend down using a mallet.
You may need to make a couple of corrections, but it should only take a couple of minutes.
