Filing class action suite against Debeers?

I know this is a little off the subject, but it does apply to
Debeers. Has anyone else been contacted by an organization filing a
class action suite against Debeers?

I will be writing an article about this for New York Diamonds
magazine this month and would be happy to post it on Orchid.

Briefly, De Beers has agreed to answer such a case in court in the
United States and a settlement amount has been decided upon. It is to
be divided among all the claimants who are potentially a very large
group. This includes wholesale buyers, retailers and even consumers.

Yes. I was contacted, but I have to date refused to sign up with the
organization that called me (although I had them send me their
. It seems to me that the only one who will come out of
this with much money is the organization asking us to sign up with
them. It’s only going to be pennies for most people, but for a
company acting as a representative for tens of thousands owed
pennies, they can make some money. Also they seem to be jumping the
gun a little. In my research, it seems it is not at all clear exactly
how the settlement is actually going to be dealt with.

If I remember correctly, the individual did mention the percentage
they were looking to collect from a pertisipant was something like
30%, but without taking a breath he also stated the figure was
negoshable on at the time of a settlement. I just recieved an email
with their and sign up list, but I have not read it yet.
Immediatly my thoughts were whats the catch? I may have blipped it
out, but were they trying to get one to enter into a contract with
them?

I was contacted by them, but after reading through and realizing it
was not really the legal services for either side in the litigation
but a firm merely wanting a percentage of any settlement I might
receive, I shredded it.

Yes, I got an actual contract faxed to me about it at the 30%
figure.

Regarding the De Beers case, you should be wary of anyone offering
to prepare paperwork for you with a fee of 1/3 of the settlement
amount reached. According to the attorney who spoke recently, the
paperwork will be extremely simple and claimants would have to gather
the for the form anyway. Having someone else submit the
paperwork is unnecessary and a waste of the small amount of money
likely to be awarded.
