I may soon be casting sterling pieces for a greyhound adoption group
who sells jewelry as a fund-raiser. I never expected to cast for
anyone but myself. haven’t a clue how to charge for this. I went
through the archives, and casting fees haven’t been discussed since
2005.
It appears that I may be casting their original waxes and making
molds for them. I expect I will also probably be doing all the
finishing work as well as the casting. We haven’t started negotiating
yet; they’re waiting for the carver to finish their waxes. I want to
be ready when we start talking $.
What are the going rates circa 2009 for mold making, casting and
finishing sterling?
take two: I asked about this a few days back and got no responses. I
hope someone out there can give me some advice on how to determine
what to charge…
I may soon be casting sterling pieces for a greyhound adoption group
that sells jewelry as a fund-raiser. I never expected to do much, if
any casting for anyone but myself. I’ve only got one outside client
and I totally botched up pricing that job. I’m still regretting how I
handled that one – and continue to regret it every time they place a
re-order.
So I want to do a better job of pricing this time around. I went
through the archives, and casting fees haven’t been discussed since
2005.
I will be creating and casting their originals and making molds for
them. I will also be doing all the finishing work as well as the
casting. We haven’t discussed prices yet. I just got their design
pics in an e-mail yesterday. They’ll be easy enough to create, as
they’re flat 2-D designs. They’ll only be ordering 20 of each piece
at
a time.
I haven’t any idea how to charge for any of this.
