Efferdent for cleaning jewelry

I did not see anyone else respond to this, but using efferdent to
clean jewelry must be done with caution. I repaired a ring (several
times over the course of years) that had been cleaned in efferdent and
the customer let it soak overnight. The efferdent attacked the gold,
especially the solder joints, and turned it into swiss cheese! Big
problems, and big headache for the goldsmith (me) who attempted to
repair the thing. It was never right again, the gold seemed to have
lost all it’s strength and continually broke in another spot. No
amount of burnishing would hide the porosity, it was a big mess. I
have never tried using denture cleaner on jewelry, it might be OK for
short soaking, but take precautions.
