Does anyone recognise this karat stamp?

I agreed to help an aquaintance by resizing (up about 2 sizes) an heirloom wedding band. The first thing I did was steam clean it, and in doing so, I dislodged some crud from the interior and it exposed something I hadn’t seen in the gold stamp- a sideways w next to the 14k. I can’t find anything online about what this means! My main concern is if I cut it open and add a section of 14kt yellow gold, and the gold alloys don’t match perfectly, it will look weird. I can’t find anything about it online.

The sideways W or M is simply the maker’s mark.

I would try stretching it to size if you are concerned about the color. You have enough metal to do it. Anneal stretch, anneal stretch. Worst case scenario is the solder seam opens up. Just re-solder and keep going until you get the wanted size.

I would do that but there is a delicate, beautiful engraving on the interior that the customer wants to preserve. Thank you for your response!
