Displays to photograph chokers

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking for a display to photograph chokers on. Something like a
bust but with a neck. Does anyone have a source for arty looking
necklace/choker busts?

Thanks! --Shahasp Valentine

The most wonderful such displays I’ve ever seen were in the
Mendocino Jewelry Studio. One of the jewelers is involved with a
potter who took an actual plaster cast of her neck and shoulders and
then used it as a mold with slabs of “Cassius Clay” (yes, as a former
potter, I can assure you that this is the name of a lovely clay that
fires very black at maturity). Since you work with PMC, you can
probably imagine the results easily.

I’d had the idea already, but not of doing them in black–and I
don’t feel up to taking a cast of myself. Besides, as one of the
other jewelers in the Studio said, you need someone with a really
beautiful neck!

Here is a link for a couple who sell reproductions of mannequin
busts from the 1920’s to the '50. They are superb! I like that the
reproduction busts expressions and make-up don’t have the lewd and
hardened look of modern mannequin busts.

In light of the recent posts about Stuller I must say this, I
have been using them for over thirty years and have never had a
problem with them that could not be resolved. Anyway they have some
display busts that are great for jewelry display. They are matt
black and very contemporary. I used a couple at our last show and
they got rave reviews. Comments like " this is the best art show I
have been to in two years" , " this is your most elegant show yet",
" presentation is really good this show" anyway I think they might
be what you are looking for. I think they are priced around $100. Frank Goss

You might check out the websites listed below. I ordered a jewelry
mannequin from Allen Display, and it is very nice for displaying
necklaces and even earrings.  I really need something taller,
as a number of my necklaces are too long for this display, and am
considering purchasing a full size mannequin eventually. The Venus
designs are very interesting.
