This sounds like an urban myth–how can you machine from “exact models and design” without measurements…? And surely a metric/inch discrepancy would have shown up in the models–isn’t that what models are for?
It seems what Gerry heard about was an inaccurate retelling of the actual Imperial/Metric fiasco that led to the loss of the Mars Climate Orbiter in September 1999.

Yes, Brass Mallets are best for the hardened tool I was told by nice Rio Grande Tech support. I had bought a sledge hammer from Home Depot, but was told that was not a good idea…thank goodness I called to ask a question or I would know have known. Disc cutters can be a bit pricey, so I wanted to take care. I love Rio!
