Difference in types of gas tanks

What are the differences between the MC and B acetylene gas tanks
besides the size? Can an MC tank be used with a Prestolite torch?
Everything I’ve read recommends using a “B” tank, so I’m curious.

I called my insurer about setting up a work area in my garage. I was
pleasantly surprised that he didn’t freak out. I explained to him
that it would be at a hobby level for now but I might expand in the
future. I also dropped him off a lapidary journal and some other
so he could see how a torch would be used. I’ll follow
through later in the week and let you all know what he says in case
anyone else is interested.

Cheers,

MC tanks have a smaller fitting than B tanks. They will also
obviously run out of fuel sooner. Adaptors are available to adapt
either up or down between them. I have never had any problems either
way. A B tank is probably just the old standard size for the
prestolite torch.

The B tank has a larger threaded connection than the MC. I have one
of each. The smaller MC is in a portable rack that came with my full
sized cutting/welding outfit, the B sits in a rack that’s much more
substantial. Eventually it will be mounted or set up with a wheeled
cart once I get my permanent work space set up. I have an adapter set
that lets me switch my torches between tanks (my Smith torch came
with B connection).
