Detail polishing

G’day; I find that a piece of thin cheap cotton tape, (about 3 mm
wide) rubbed with , say, tripoli, threaded into the work, followed by
another piece rubbed with rouge will polish intricate detail. If the
detail is very fine, I use heavy cotton thread. For abrasive pre
polish, I take a sheet of wet-and-dry paper of appropriate grit (I
start at 400 grit) and lay down strips of good electrical insulating
tape on the back. Using a scalpel and a ruler, I cut long strips of
the reinforced paper of width appropriate to be threaded into the work
piece. Start with wetted paper, finish with dry, then the polishing
follows. Cheap and simple and effective. Cheers, –
