If you’re going to be in NYC for MJSA than you might want to attend
DesignerDAY: The Business Conference for Jewelry Designers at the
Roosevelt Hotel, Madison Ave. at 46th St. It’s produced by Me, Cindy
Edelstein and MJSA.

This full-day event is packed with education, and
insights. First Bruce Baker (famed lecturer on the fine craft
circuit) will do a two-hour workshop on Dynamic Selling. Bruce is
amazing! He’s got proven tips and tricks for jewelers selling their
work from a show booth or retail shop. He’s funny, energetic and
very informative.

Next comes 3 workshops - Marlene Richey on the Surviving in a Free
Agent Nation; Merchandising a Line for Maximum Effect, by Terri
Ianuale a retail expert; and Get Your Buzz On – Publicity,
Presentation and the WOW! Factor with PR guru Elizabeth Florence.
She’ll teach you how to get editors, retailers, celebrities and
consumers to notice (and remember) you and your work.

Lunch has a panel discussion with half a dozen fashion editors
talking about how you can work with them most effectively.

If that’s isn’t a full day already – we also offer one-on-one
counseling sessions with nearly 2 dozen experts in media, marketing,
advertising, sales, the internet and more. You can make appointments
with as many as you’d like and get personalized, professional
advice.

Our day ends with a panel led by me featuring famed jewelry makers
on how the run their business most effectively. We’ll discuss the
deals they make with their vendors, service providers, sales reps,
showrooms, editors and their retailers. It will be quite eye-opening
for you. Panel features Fiona Tilley, partner in Gurhan, Jeff Feero,
partner in Alex Sepkus, designer Meryl Waitz and publicist/product
placement expert Michelle Orman.

The icing on the cake is that we have two specialty vendors with us

  • Charon Kransen who has a world-class selection of books on
jewelry, art and design including many out of print books, important
show catalogs and a lot more.

And lastly, for all you designers who do not have a good headshot –
an essential marketing tool – than you can have your photo taken
during our conference by a professional photographer. Matt Benson
will set up a mini-studio and shoot headshots digitally. You can
choose from a few different shots and Matt will prepare it for you
on CD. His fee? Less than $80.

Hope to meet fellow Orchid members during the MJSA weekend. I too
will be exhibiting at the MJSA Expo and offering consulting sessions
in my booth.

See you there!
