According to which was disseminated in late 2002 or
early 2003, DeBeers had obtained majority holdings in the largest
Canadian producers. They did this through a convoluted series of
third party stock purchases, and it left them with the largest stock
holding, and the Australian group in second place. I don’t know how
much this situation has changed in the last 18 months or so.
