Copper Bead for Cloisonné

Hi! I read the article by Edmund Massow about cloisonné on a copper bead. I would like to know if the copper bead was soldered with eutectic solder or if you would use hard solder and then ‘electroplate’ in a contaminated pickle? Thanks!
