Cool new light

I just love discovering a tool made for something else that has
great potential for jewelry applications. And my aging eyes are
always looking for a better way to shed light on the right spot.

There’s a great catalog/website called sportsmansguide.com, that has
all kinds of cool stuff, much of it closeouts. They recently started
carrying a great 6-LED gooseneck lamp with a combo clamp/magnetic
base (WX2-111772). It runs on three AA batteries. It has so far
helped me see a critical joint I was soldering, and I can think of
several other possible applications- including adding an accent light
to a photography setup. The base is very cool, and the gooseneck is
long enough to really maneuver around. And it’s only 20 bucks! All
you tool/equipment junkies should check out this site anyway! Have
fun!

If that’s the light I’m thinking of it is also amazingly good at
thwarting the mischieviousness of the shop trolls. There’s something
about that light that causes virtually everything we drop to stand
right out, even in a medium weave carpet. It’s truly amazing!

Actually, I’ve seen these for $15 in a couple of places, including
Harbor Freight.

I bought a few tiny LED clip-ons to add accent light at shows, and
found that the light was totally the wrong color-- completely
useless for that purpose, so possibly also for photography. Too
bright for book lights…
