Color treatment of mild steel need

I’m making a heart of mild steel for the wall to celebrate a wedding
anniversary. I want to add some color on the surface which it will be
about 10"x10". I’ don’t have the set up for powder coating, can’t use
jax green patina for a base for prism colored pencils, and I was told
gilders paste is only for crevices of etching and not for the
surface. I only have access to a butane torch so heat is not an
option. There are inks and dyes. Maybe these would be my only
options? Has anyone used products from steel fx patinas’ thx

Brenda

A butane torch is plenty hot to bring up the steel heat colors.
Check a blacksmith’s reference for the progression of color.
