Hello Orchidland,
I just bought a device intended for cleaning teeth and gums. It’s like the old Water Pik. Menard’s Home Store has this device (Mospro water flosser) for $6.69. Rechargeable too.
I soaked my gungy wedding set in 409 overnight to soften up the gunge. Then used the jetted water. Dislodged stuff from behind the stones.
I’m pleased. Not as good as a steam cleaner, but a vast improvement over a tooth brush
Hope this is helpful,
Judy in Kansas where temps are in the 70s and windy. Should make for many homeruns at the baseball game this evening!!
What a great tip for folks who are starting out making jewelry who can’t afford an expensive steamer and sonic. I wish that I thought of that 50 some odd years ago. When I teach jewelry I often start out on the first day with 2 missives.
1: “Making jewelry is more expensive than heroin.” It is often responded by someone saying “Oh yeah. All of the gold and silver and gems” My response is always…“Nope It’s the tools.”
2: “Failure is not an option in my class.” The visually cringe when I say that. Then I say, “It’s a requirement. The only reason I have become a decent jewelry maker is because I have fed up there is to "fup. My advice is to get your first 10 f***ups out of the way, learn the lessons from them and move on.”
I have shared this idea before but will again since we are on the topic. I have always had Goop without pumice in my shop to clean my hands. I discovered that it will also do a good job of dissolving polishing dirt too. The trick is to find Goop without pumice. I used to be able to buy it by the gallon, but now they only sell it by the pint…Rob
Judy, another way steam clean is to use an old espresso coffeemaker, many of them have a milk frother nozzle !!. Often you see old machines in garage sales.
Hello Carlos. Good share. I actually have such an espresso machine, and will give it a try to steam clean. Since I’m not an espresso devotee’, the device would then be useful!! Do miss having the steamer that I sold when we downsized to an apartment.
