Channel setting with intentional gaps

hi friends, wondering if you can advise me on how to go about setting up, in CAD, a channel setting such as this. we are wanting to channel set some 2mm square baguettes in groups of 2, with intentional gaps between the groups. should I plan to add metal in some way on either end of the groups of 2? I’m assuming yes, I’m just not sure exactly how to approach, without covering up the visible gaps too much. appreciate!

Structure is a problem. Nothing to hold the top rails together. Any twisting or sizing will pop those stones right out. If the ring is thick enough, you might be able to put small bars under the two stones to hold together. You do not need bars to keep the stones from moving sideways in the channel. Just boolean out a notch for the girdle, the width of the stone.

Yes you have to have something holding the bars or shoulders together. My first choice would be a under bezel that is about 95% the size of the stones, not to tall so it’s not obvious when looking down on the stones, that would make it simple for the setter. It’s possible to put a bar under the the 2 stones that contacts and is hidden by the pavilion only on the inside of the 2 stones, this could be tricky for the setter. You could make the outside bars or shoulder of the ring heavy enough to accommodate the pressure of setting but you will have a problem down the road with stones coming out and then have to remake the ring with the under bezels or some kind of connection

Could some sort of decorative metal element be soldered into the open spaces between the stones? I don’t work in faceted stones, so I really have no idea what I am talking about…Rob

okay I like this, just an under bezel that makes sense and would connect the rails together, thank you!

Your welcome, hope it goes well for you

Just had this ring this morning for repair and thought of this post. Close to the idea that you want to do
