Centrifugal Casting Drum / Shell

With my Vacuum Casting unit broken, which is really a blessing in
that I never was confident that it would provide the expected
result…Was most likely due to the problem which caused it to
break!!.. the coupling between the pump and motor was just possibly
slipping on occasion.

I would like to build a shell or drum for a centrifugal caster… I
recall that there was a discussion material used per possible
contamination of the ‘splatter gold’ if reused in casting??

Thoughts as to how to make one and or materials to use… pic links
of home-made units would be appreciated…

Just install your spinner inside a simple old style wash tub. Bolt it
down onto a solid bolted down table.

Good Idea!.. But if gold ‘Splatters’… will the Galvanized Metal
contaminate the gold???

Thanks,
Jimc

Have considered purchasing the standard Centrifugal Casting
Drum/Shell … The Blue and Octagon shaped one in all catalogs… I
assume it is a baked on power enamel… Wonder if that flakes off
when Gold Splatter hits it??

No contamination, It works fine, been used for over 60 years just
scrape off the splash and get on with it. No problemo! All aloys
contain zinc anyhow and the cross over is not or ever been noticed.

There’s one thing about this that’s important to note: the
galvanizing on a new wash tub or sheet metal centrifuge enclosure
will stick to any metal that’s splashed against it. I had a really
hard time once, recovering some gold that soldered itself onto my
brand-new custom-rolled shell. As the zinc oxidizes, this becomes
much less of an issue. I ended up swabbing the interior of the
enclosure with vinegar, which seemed to abate the problem.

The Blue Shell is paint (powder coated) It is not baked enamel.

An Old Fashion Garbage Can, Fill with Concrete to desired & workalbe
height. Embed J bolts in concrete to mount machine.

You may have to use a short table to adjust the height where you
will be confortable with the torch etc.

I have seen this set up to work fine.
