Casting small components

Hi

I would like to make some delicate ornate bezel setting for
gemstones with a cut out detail, however as I imagine I would need to
cast them. The stone I would like these settings for are approx.
6-8mm. I have never done casting before and not completely sure what
equipment I would need etc. Can anyone recommend a book or tutorial?
Or may be advise on how it is done?

Your help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Lilia

Settings as you describe are easily made using hand-fabrication
techniques. Casting it would be the worst possible way of making it. I
demonstrate how it is done in my DVD Coronet Cluster.

Depending on the final result casting could be an option, although
hand work would also be fine.

Casting technology these days is much more refined than in the days
of the dinosaurs.

You need to decide for yourself which way you go.

You can see many detailed demonstrations outlining the techniques
and results on the internet, only costs you time to look.
