Casting houses in nyc + gold casting qtn

I wondered if any of you have had experience with the following
casting places in Manhattan, NYC – Ampex and Quality Casting
Inc.

I recently had a gold wax model cast at Ampex in 18K yellow
gold. I was pleased with the results but the color was not as
expected, a bit too green. I haven’t done much finishing on the
piece yet, other than tumbling. Still green. Any suggestions?
Any similar experiences?

I’m considering Quality Casting for my next model. Any advice?

Thanks,

R.D.

I’ve used Quality Casting for some platinum castings. I’ve been
very happy with results and price.

Simply ask them to cast in a more traditional color, i.e. medium
yellow. Some people like the greenish yellow, I don’t. There’s
too much silver and the gold is too soft.

I use them for platinum only. They are quick and good. They are
a factory and won’t care as much about your peice as you do. For
example this week I got a platinum/cobalt casting back, a bezel
setting for a 2.5ct diamond on a fancy, wide band,it had to be
exactly 6.5 mm wide. It was pretty thick (customer request) and I
was concerned about pitting, so I asked them to make a mold of
the wax ($25.00) to be sure of good results. When I got it back
they had cast the wax from the mold not the original (they
returned the original), it was slightly more narrow than the
original. I was a little irritated because it may end up slightly
less than the required 6.5mm. I don’t have time to return. We
usually have no problems.

My point is if you want it done right, do it yourself. If thats
not possible, try to idiot proof it.
