Casting gold into a flat steel molds

Is it possible to cast gold into a flat, hollowed steel mold to cast
a tablet (the outline of which is a woman playing racketball)? I have
a friend who’s wife was a state champion in Iowa 6 years ago and now
is suffering from Alzheimer’s. He wants to have several made as
Christmas presents and wants to cut the mold himself.

I’m a cutter not a goldsmith I offered to point him where he can get
an answer. Sadly he hopes she makes it to then…

Jim, it’s possible, but it’s going to be a “pour” - you’re not going
to get the detail that a centrifuge or vacuum will get you by a long
shot. In order to do it you need to have an enclosed mold. It will
NOT work if you try to just pour it on top of a die. You’d need a
flat sheet to enclose it, and a pour spout on one end. Be aware,
though, of what I said above. The level of detail that can be gotten
will be quite low.
