Carat Diamond

Hello Orchid people,

I am a lurker, my husband John is the computer person. I am a
quazi-retired goldsmith, (I do large bronzes now).

I have a problem. I need to sell, for my son, a diamond I bought for
him several years ago. I have been holding it for him until he was
old enough. He is now and has decided that the money would be
better than a stone.

The Diamond is a 1.02ct VVS2, G color. It has lived in the safety
deposit box for nearly eight years and has never been set into a
piece. Since I do not have customers in jewelry any more, I have no
way to sell the stone. So I would like to sell it wholesale. The last
time I checked the price of this quality it was about $4,400.00.

If any one is interested please contact me.

hello re Diamond due to the large mark-up from wholesale to retail
prices in the jewellery trade i would suggest having the diamond set
in a popular engagement style ring and having it sold on behalf at a
jewellery store or up-market jewellery auction . you didnt say
whether the 4,400 was a retail value or not . if it is retail then a
shop would offer you under half that value to buy outright . the cost
of a ring if (im not sure if your a jeweller or not ) you go to a
small skilled manufacturer shouldnt be more than about US$500 for
something very nice and you will definately make more when you go to
sell it . this time of year is good too for weddings and engagements.
If you manage to find a jeweller who will sell on behalf for you make
sure you have it independantly valued first , thay will probably want
about 25% to 30 % commission and you may have to wait a while before
it sells but you should be able to gain about $1500 or more from
selling it wholesale… Phil
