Butane torch soldering kit?

My skill with soldering is less than basic - I took one class series
in metalsmithing and saw how it could help me with my existing
jewelry making and what I can look forward to in the future. In
class we used oxygen/acetylene, but I’m not going to do that kind of
setup at home. My needs are small -right now all I want to do is
solder jump rings shut, and maybe do some metal clay.

Otto Frei has a butane torch kit:

which has a lot more items in it than I understand. Of this list,
what do you think I must have in order to solder jump rings (for
now)? I have someitems on the list already.

Hi Mara,

For soldering silver & gold rings used in chain I’ve been using the
Proxxon MicroFlam butane torch for over 10 years.

It’s a compact hand held torch with an adjustable flame & a built in
push button igniter.

It can be seen at http://proxxon.com/us/html/28146.html
